Heightened Language, Enlightened Education.

At Red Bull Theater we extend our mission into the world of education by bringing the stories of great classical theater to vibrant life in the classroom and by encouraging continued exploration of Shakespeare and his contemporaries at every educational level.  We divide our work into four branches: Master Classes, Education Outreach, Internships/Apprenticeships, and Bull Sessions:

MASTER CLASSES

EDUCATION OUTREACH
We believe that practical experience with Shakespeare and the art of dramatic story-telling are critical components of any education, and that exploring classical theater and experiencing the power of heightened theatrical language is of particular importance to the imaginative lives of the next generation.  The inclusion of dramatic story-telling, theatrical exercises and heightened poetic text in classroom curricula increases literacy opportunities, expands social understanding, allows imaginative growth, teaches collaborative problem-solving and promotes self-confidence and personal presence in young people.  The Red Bull Theater Direct Address program encourages exactly this kind of development.

The program takes its name from a compelling theatrical device, frequently employed in Shakespeare and the classical theater, in which a character directly addresses the audience.  It is in moments such as this that the audience and the actor enter into a powerful imaginative experience with each other.  Through our in-school residencies, dedicated educational performances and panel discussions with our actors and artists Red Bull Theater 'directly addresses’ young minds and encourages the educational and artistic development of the next generation of theatergoers.

To date, Red Bull Theater Direct Address has reached over 1,000 developing minds.  Our single day workshops and 8-10 week residencies have had significant success with students of all ages.

For more information on how to bring the Direct Address program to your child’s school, please write valerie@redbulltheater.com.

STUDENT MATINEES
Arrange for a matinee performance of one of our productions for your class or school. Ticket prices as low as $5 per student. Post-play Discussions and pre-performance Workshops also available through our Direct Address education program. Contact valerie@redbulltheater.com or call (212) 414-5168 ext. 1 to discuss options for your school.

INTERNSHIPS AND APPRENTICESHIPS
As part of our commitment to developing a new generation of classical theater professionals, Red Bull Theater engages early-career theater artists in a collaborative and hands-on learning environment through unpaid internships and apprenticeships.  Internships are available to students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs.  Apprenticeships are available for theater artists of all ages who wish to contribute to Red Bull Theater’s work in exchange for a hands-on learning experience.  Each Intern or Apprentice focuses on specific projects within their field of study while the artists and staff of the company provide one-on-one mentoring opportunities and guidance.  Inclusion in the Red Bull Theater family provides essential professional experience.

Apprenticeships and Internships are unpaid positions of commitment, available year round, in a variety of concentrations, to passionate, self-motivated individuals, who are eager to learn about and actively support the day-to-day functioning of a growing off-Broadway theater.  Internships can earn college credit, depending on your specific program’s requirements.

If you would like to inquire about an internship or apprenticeship, please submit a brief statement of intent, a current résumé and two references to: valerie@redbulltheater.com

BULL SESSIONS
Our commitment to exploring great classic plays continues beyond productions and readings with illuminating panel discussions.  From post-play discussions with the actors, directors, and artists that bring our productions to life, to topical debates on classical theater in today’s world, we cultivate exciting educational opportunities through spirited cultural dialogue.
