This year's inaugural IN THE RAW
workshop will provide two weeks of rehearsal and
development to Kay Matschullat's contemporary
spin on Alfred de Musset's love tragicomedy, culminating
in two public performances on July 26th and 27th
at Playwrights Horizons Peter Jay Sharp Theater.

Alfred de Musset's On ne badine pas avec l'amour
First heard last season in a "Revelation Reading,"
this new play interpolates Abelard, Heloise, instant
messaging, and the power elite into a powerful
cocktail of love, drama, and humor. In this new
version, an old romantic French farce has a seriously
new American bite. Utilizing the latest technology,
including projections and cutting edge interactive
media, Kay Matschullat and a fantastic cast and
designers explore love and family in the 21st
century.

A new workshop series, IN THE RAW
creates an artistic bridge between "Revelation
Readings" and Full Productions, providing space,
time, and support for projects ready to move beyond
a staged reading, but that require further development
and exploration prior to full production.
Each IN THE RAW project receives
a full-fledged workshop with a director, top-notch
cast and designers, culminating in public presentations
over the course of the workshop, as they best
serve the writer and the process of developing
his or her new work. We are thrilled to share
this fascinating and challenging part of the creative
process with our audience.
IN THE RAW Projects under consideration
for the future include:
Don Jonny, a rock & roll musical version
of the Don Juan legend, by Anton Dudley and Jonathan
Spottiswoode.
Measure for Measure, a radical re-interpretation
of Shakespeare’s classic play by director Daniel
Fish and featuring actor Michael Emerson.
