Type: Full-Time

Employment start date: June/July 2022

Red Bull Theater is seeking an entrepreneurial, results-driven, fundraising professional to lead and execute our fundraising strategy as Director of Development.

The Director of Development is responsible for cultivating relationships and executing the strategic direction, coordination and implementation of all the company’s fundraising efforts. Collaboration and positive visibility are essential components to the success of the role. The Director of Development is a new full-time leadership position at Red Bull Theater. The company is seeking an exceptional individual who can play a vital role in ensuring the theater’s continued success and sustainable growth. The Director of Development will work in close partnership with the company’s Founder and Artistic Director, Staff, Trustees, Artists, and Volunteers to achieve the fundraising goals of the organization.

People of color, and/or from diverse backgrounds or underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Red Bull Theater is dedicated to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at all levels of our organization. We are an equal opportunity, antiracist employer. Red Bull Theater does not discriminate in practices or employment opportunities on the basis of an individual’s race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, veteran status, disability, or any other category.

Red Bull Theater, “the most exciting classical theater in New York” (Time Out) and “a dynamic producer of classic plays” (New York Times), brings rarely seen classic plays to new life for contemporary audiences. Our work unites a respect for tradition with a modern sensibility. We take our name from the rowdy Jacobean playhouse that illegally performed plays in England during the years of Puritan rule, and was the first London theater to reopen after the Restoration. This bold spirit is central to our identity. With the Jacobean plays of Shakespeare and his contemporaries as our cornerstone, Red Bull Theater is New York City’s destination for dynamic performances of great plays that stand the test of time.

With an annual budget of $1.5M and average annual audience of 15,000, a season at Red Bull Theater includes Off-Broadway Productions, Staged Readings, plus targeted Engagement, Education and Training programs–currently all being offered both online and in person. As the company emerges artistically and financially sound following the pandemic shutdown, we are ready to begin actively planning for our Twentieth Anniversary Season, and beyond. Our annual fundraising goal is $750K. With an involved board of trustees, a solid patron base, and a dedicated core of artistic associates, Red Bull Theater is poised for sustainable growth – with a strong Director of Development – as it enters an exciting third decade of sharing great classic stories.

Reporting to and collaborating with the Founder and Artistic Director, the Development Director will lead the company’s efforts on all aspects of fundraising.
