ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Type: Quarter Time
REPORTS TO: Producing Director, Nathan Winkelstein
SALARY: $20,000 - 25,000 annually, paid bi-weekly

Red Bull Theater seeks a skilled administrator and exceptional communicator – someone who is passionate about both education and training – to join our team. Entering the company at a time of growth, this position will have an exciting opportunity to support and help develop and expand our education and training programs, including Shakespeare in Schools,
Acting Classes and Intensives, and other Engagement Activities of the company. The Associate Director of Education and Training is a part-time position which will expand and enrich our relationships with the artists, students and lifelong learners we serve, and forge new ones. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational skills, experience in the theater, education and/or non-profit cultural sectors, and a willingness to evaluate needs, devise a course of action and take the bull by the horns to accomplish the goals set.

We take our name from the rowdy Jacobean playhouse that illegally performed plays in England during the years of Puritan rule. This bold spirit is central to our identity. Red Bull Theater is New York City’s destination for dynamic performances of great plays that stand the test of time. In addition to our work leading the community with artistic programs Off-Broadway including celebrated productions and our OBIE Award-Winning Revelation Readings series, Red Bull Theater has offered Education & Training programs over the past twenty years. In the last few years, these programs have reached a turning point where we see clear capacity for growth and increased depth of experience for the students and lifelong learners we serve. Red Bull Theater’s Education and Training initiatives include Shakespeare in Schools (free Student Matinees, In-School Residencies, an Educational Touring Production, and an exciting new partnership with the Hunt’s Point Children’s Shakespeare Ensemble; and our training program includes Acting Intensives, Auditioning and Playwriting Classes and others which provide continuing education for all ages.

The Associate Director of Education and Training joins a “small, but fierce” team, who are passionately leading Red Bull through an exciting time of growth. With an annual budget of $3M and average annual audience of 15,000, a season at Red Bull Theater includes Off-Broadway Productions, Staged Readings, and targeted and expanding Engagement, Education and Training programs. With new initiatives encompassing both our in-school education programs and adult learning programs, Red Bull Theater is poised for sustainable growth as it enters an exciting third decade.
KEY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Associate Director of Education and Training drives the day to day operations of our
Education and Training programs by
-
Engaging with our students and ensuring their needs are addressed;
-
Engaging with our teachers and Teaching Artists to make sure they are supported and their responsibilities are clear;
-
Communicating with our School partners to ensure our initiatives with the schools are seamless.

SPECIFIC TACTICS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

In conjunction with the Director of Education, strategize on how to expand SIS’s reach;
-
Spearhead outreach and communication with Partner schools regarding residencies, student matinees and in-school tours;
-
Codify and improve our feedback surveys with both teachers and students;
-
Submit invoices and purchase orders to school partners and with the NYCDOE through Polaris;
-
In conjunction with the Director of Education, strategize on how to expand our Acting Intensives and classes reach;
-
In conjunction with the Director of Education, write and provide the copy for all acting intensives;
-
Line-produce our existing Acting Intensives and all Classes, communicating with Teachers, venues and students in an organized manner;
-
Act as a Red Bull representative at classes, reading, and workshops.

POSSIBLE ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Depending on the candidate's skill set and interest, some other activities might include working on these related Engagement Activities:

Manage accessibility initiatives such as closed captioning for our streamed readings as well as open captioning and ASL interpretation for our Off-Broadway productions;

Collaborate with the Marketing and Operations Manager to produce, edit, and publish monthly podcasts for the Red Bull Theater Podcast;

Moderate and organize the company’s free Bull Session discussion series, online seminars, and other educationally oriented engagement activities.

You have experience leading Educational initiatives from conception to execution;

You have experience teaching and/or devising curriculum for the performance and study of Shakespeare to amateurs, children, and/or professionals

You have experience implementing programs executed in partnership with New York City Public Schools and Community Based Organizations;

You are knowledgeable with the NYC DOE Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts;

You are experienced with DOE purchasing mechanisms;

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
This is a quarter-time salaried position with a salary range of $20,000 - $25,000.
Our current full-time staff of four work together in a small and temporary shared co-working office space, while our new 1,000 square foot offices in Chelsea are retrofitted for our use. Remote work is part of our operational routine as needed; an average of 4 hours of in-office time is expected. Additionally, as a theater company, a number of evening and weekend hours are part of the natural expectation for all employees.
